Visual Essay

This picture represents how at a young age the people, the media, are already brain washing children into consuming. Into buying. I chose this picture because it does in a way reflect on how kids are raised. They are raised to want things, why because we give it to them also the media markets it to children through T.V., Books, Radio, etc. They really is no way to avoid a child from becoming a mass consumer like us, there isn't an escape from the media its surrounding us so no matter whatwere all going to become consuming Zombies.

My response to the passage: “They’re also waiting to make you want things. Everything we’ve grown up with…it’s all streamlining our personalities so we’re easier to sell to…they do these demographic studies that divide everyone up into a few personality types, and then you get ads based on what you’re supposedly like. They try to figure out who you are, and to make you conform to one of their types for easy marketing.” When I read this passage I find it sort of creepy because it is like having a permanent stalker in your head, observing your every action. Then after the stalker learns everything about you, at the opportunity they strike by drawing you into a trap. Things like that in today’s society would be something like Google or YouTube. I know that Google and YouTube can gather up all the things you have searched and compile them, to make a suggestion on what else you would like to search or view. If there were a profile for me I think it would be for all the new technology. So I would probably get ads about feed programs and updates and all the stuff that makes all my different technological experience better. If I had a chat I think I would use it because it’s basically like texting on a phone. It wouldn’t affect my communication any more than my cell phone does, as far as I think.

Violets project was to create a personal profile. She wanted to create a profile that was screwed up so that the feed would not be able to put her under a certain category and so that she would become invisible. Her willingness to do this sais about her that she is maybe careless or rebellious. People like her in life are emotional people or “emo” people, they tend to rebel and try to become invisible to planet. At first Titus was a little confused by violets project but then he kind of rolled along with it.

-In the book “Feed” the first sentence can be seen as a very odd one. You can get many different impressions from the first sentence of the book. A few that I had were, one, I immediately recognized that the setting of the book was held in the future because of the moon statement. Second, I got the feeling the moon was a common place for people to go because of how casual he sounded when he said “We decided” to go. Lastly I thought it was a kid or a teenager that was telling the story because he was saying that they went “to have fun”. Also I thought this because of the language that was used.


-In the book everyone seems to be getting lesions which are these abnormal cuts or deformities on their bodies. They are getting these lesions because their feeds are giving off a radiation which in affect gives them their sores. The lesions are basically a cause and effect and there are many cause and effects in this world today. Such things like cancer, you can get cancer from many things but things like cigarettes are a big cause to the effect of cancer yet people still continue to smoke even though they know the result.

-“To all who resist the feed”…The feed is basically one big advertisement. To resist the feed you would have to resist all the stuff it is feeding (ha LOL) you, like all the stuff it tells you to buy and do. Are there similar things to the feed in today’s society? Yes, several things such as television, radio, the internet, magazines, newspapers, billboards, school ™ etc. To resist today’s feed would be hard especially since it is everywhere. Resisting it would mean you would have to ignore it as best as you could and not give in.
